First of all, there was no real danger to
people. The main problem is excess rainwater, which cannot drain away because
we're below sea level. We've had a wet December, and last week we've had strong
winds and lots of rain on top of it. It's been wind force 8-9 for 3 days in a
row now. Nothing really out of the ordinary and something that will occur
almost once every year, in some form or another.
The staff at the Groninger Museum moved
two exhibitions late Thursday from ground floor halls because of the rising level
of a moat that surrounds the building.
The water level in the province of Groningen has
dropped significantly Friday. There was much water discharged to sea, making
the water level in some places to eighty inches fell.
According to the Water Board is the
critical phase with regard to the water beyond.
The water level should not be a problem anymore."
