Harry Mulisch

Yesterday Harry Mulisch died. He was one of my favorite writers so this is a small tribute of this great writer.

Harry Kurt Victor Mulisch (July 29, 1927 – October 30, 2010 was a Dutch author. Along with W.F. Hermans and Gerard Reve, he is considered one of the "Great Three" of Dutch postwar literature. He has written novels, plays, essays, poems, and philosophical reflections.

Biography
Mulisch was born in Haarlem and has lived in Amsterdam since 1958, following the death of his father in 1957. Mulisch's father was from Austria-Hungary and emigrated to the Netherlands after the First World War. During the German occupation in World War II he worked for a German bank, which also dealt with confiscated Jewish assets. His mother, Alice Schwarz, was Jewish. Mulisch and his mother escaped transportation to a concentration camp thanks to Mulisch's father's collaboration with the Nazis. Due to the curious nature of his parents' positions, Mulisch has claimed that he is the Second World War. Mulisch was mostly raised by his parents' housemaid, Frieda Falk.

Themes in his work
A frequent theme in his work is the Second World War. His father had worked for the Germans during the war and went to prison for three years afterwards. As the war spanned most of Mulisch's formative phase, it had a defining influence on his life and work. In 1963, he wrote a non-fiction work about the Eichmann case: Case 40/61. Major works set against the backdrop of the Second World War are De Aanslag, Het stenen bruidsbed, and Siegfried.

Additionally, Mulisch often incorporates ancient legends or myths in his writings, drawing on Greek mythology (e.g. in De Elementen), Jewish mysticism (in De ontdekking van de Hemel and De Procedure), well-known urban legends and politics (Mulisch is politically left-wing, notably defending Fidel Castro since the Cuban revolution). Mulisch is widely read and (according to his critics) often flaunts his philosophical and even scientific knowledge.

In 1984 he delivered the Huizinga Lecture in Leiden, The Netherlands, under the title: Het Ene (The unifying principle).

Mulisch gained international recognition with the movie De Aanslag (The Assault), (1986) which was based on his eponymous book. It received an Oscar and a Golden Globe for best foreign movie and has been translated in more than twenty languages.

His novel De ontdekking van de Hemel (1992) was filmed in 2001 as The Discovery of Heaven by Jeroen Krabbé, starring Stephen Fry.

Amongst many awards he has received for individual works and his total body of work, the most important is the Prijs der Nederlandse Letteren (Prize of Dutch Literature, an official lifetime achievement award) in 1995.

Armin van Buuren no. 1 DJ in the DJ Mag Top 100 again!

The votes have been counted and the results are in. The DJ Mag Top 100 list of 2010 is officially announced. And it has some good news in it. For the 4th year running, Armin van Buuren is the number 1 DJ, and thus prolongs his title as ‘Most popular DJ in the world’! As the first DJ in the history of the DJ Mag, the Dutch DJ is now the number 1 DJ for 4 years in a Row

Armin van Buuren (born in Leiden, Netherlands on 25 December 1976) is a Dutch trance producer and DJ. In 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 he was voted number one in DJ Magazine's annual top 100 list of the most popular DJs. Since 2001 van Buuren has hosted a weekly radio show called A State of Trance and claims to have over 30 million weekly listeners in more than 40 countries, which would make it the most listened radio show in the world. His 2008 studio album, Imagine, entered the Dutch album chart at #1, a first for a dance artist in Dutch music history.
Armin has had a great year so far, not only releasing his A State of Trance 2010 compilation, but also reaching the milestone of his fourth artist album, ‘Mirage’. Fans best be prepared for the Armin Only 2010 – Mirage worldtour, with shows in at least 15 cities across 5 different continents and the kick off in the sold-out Jaarbeurs venue in Utrecht on November 13th! Armin would love to thank you all for the continuous support and for casting your vote in the DJ Mag.

Armin:” What music does to people has always been a passion for me. It’s there to comfort you when you’re sad, or to make you scream when you’re happy. And that fact grew to a passion. It brings me to do what I do today. Last Wednesday in London, I received the award for most popular global DJ for the fourth time in a row from DJ Magazine. And it makes me happy. Very, very happy. To get so much back from the crowd by simply doing something I love is one of the greatest gifts in life. I’m the happiest man on earth, not only because I won a wonderful award, but because I can share my passion. With you. So once again… thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you…”

Pop & Rock Stars Party at T.R.A.C.S.

Adam Mitchel Lambert (born January 29, 1982) is an American singer, songwriter, and actor from San Diego, California. In May 2009, he finished as the runner-up on the eighth season of American Idol. The Times identified Lambert as the first openly gay mainstream pop artist to launch a career on a major label in the United States.

Lambert was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is the son of Leila, an interior designer, and Eber Lambert, a program manager for Novatel Wireless. e has a younger brother, Neil.

Lambert moved to California shortly after his birth and grew up in Rancho Peñasquitos in northeastern San Diego. He attended Deer Canyon Elementary School, Mesa Verde Middle School, where he was a winner in the Airband competition (featuring Michael Jackson's "Thriller"), and Mount Carmel High School (MCHS), where he was in theater, choir, and frequently performed vocals with the school's jazz band "MC Jazz". Some of his memorable MCHS performances included Frederick in The Pirates of Penzance and "It's Only a Paper Moon" with MC Jazz.

"If I Had You" is the title of a song written by Max Martin, Shellback and Savan Kotecha. It was recorded and released as the third single from American Idol season 8 runner-up Adam Lambert's debut album, For Your Entertainment.

"If I Had You"

So I got my boots on, got the right 'mount of leather
And I'm doing me up with a black color liner
And I'm workin' my strut but I know it don't matter
All we need in this world is some love
There's a thin line 'tween the dark side and the light side baby tonight
It's a struggle gotta rumble trying to find it

But if I had you, that would be the only thing I'd ever need
Yeah if I had you, then money fame and fortune never could compete
If I had you, life would be a party it'd be ecstasy
Yeah, if I had you
You-y-y-y-y-you
You-y-y-y-y-you
You-y-y-y-y-you
If I had you

From New York to LA getting high rock n' rollin
Get a room trash it up 'til it's ten in the morning
Girls in stripper heels, boys rolling in Maseratis
What they need in this world is some love
There's a thin line tween a wild time and a flat line baby tonight
It's a struggle, gotta rumble tryin' to find it

But if I had you, that would be the only thing I'd ever need
Yeah if I had you, then money fame and fortune never could compete
If I had you, life would be a party it'd be ecstasy
Yeah, if I had you
You-y-y-y-y-you
You-y-y-y-y-you
You-y-y-y-y-you
