My Second Life and the TOS

Dear readers,
Today I talked to a friend about my Second Live friend, Karl Huet (see my older post about Karl on May 28, 2010). It seems Karl will not return to Second life. Karl got a note from Linden Support, that they investigate Karl's complain about his termination but that Linden Lab was right. Case closed. But Karl still not knows what the case is; still not know what he did wrong.

So that can happen to all of us?

When I read the Terms of Service, it seems it can.

11.4 We may suspend or terminate your Account(s) to protect the best interests of Second Life and the Second Life community or if we believe you pose an unacceptable risk to the Second Life community.

We may suspend or terminate your Account if we determine in our discretion that such action is necessary or advisable to comply with legal requirements or protect the rights or interests of Linden Lab, the Second Life community or any third party.

We may suspend or terminate your Account(s) if we learn, or in good faith believe, that you are a Registered Sex Offender, that accessing Second Life may violate a condition of parole or probation, or that you for any other reason may pose what we deem to be an unacceptable risk to the Second Life community.

So Karl is a Registered Sex Offender or Linden Labs believes we have to been protect. In 1961 the Berlin wall was build to protect its population from fascistic elements conspiring to prevent the will of the people in building a Socialist State.

The TOS was last updated: March 31, 2010
After that this paragraph was not in anymore

2.6 Linden Lab may suspend or terminate your account at any time, without refund or obligation to you.

Linden Lab has the right at any time for any reason or no reason to suspend or terminate your Account, terminate this Agreement, and/or refuse any and all current or future use of the Service without notice or liability to you. In the event that Linden Lab suspends or terminates your Account or this Agreement, you understand and agree that you shall receive no refund or exchange for any unused time on a subscription, any license or subscription fees, any content or data associated with your Account, or for anything else.

It seems Linden Lab still uses this paragraph and not have to tell you why, when your account is terminated. So one day I can lose all I own and nobody have to tell me why.
That friend I was talking with has his own Sim and he is thinking to sell it and rent some land.

I am worried and concerned about this.
Yours sincerely,
Christo

Ps. and I am not the only one that is concerned

Good statement Christo. I can feel rage coming up when I read that you don't get any information of why you are banned from Second Life and therefore you do not have any chance to defend yourself agains the case.

So it seems anyone of you can have the doom - being banned at any time - no matter if the accusation is tue or false, cause you won't find out.

This is not only a Linden dictatorship (as I wrote in our Blog) but also censorship!

I will start tinking about how I will use SL in the future, if I still keeep my premium account, how much money I will spend in the future.

May all of us survive the Linden censorship in the future

Thank you, Guy. Although this post is not about me, but about Karl. I still can log in, but I know that, what happen to Karl can happen to me to. It seems to be wise not to invest in SL.

I feel bad for Karl.. having no recourse and no explanation isn't right.

Thanks for the comment Jordyn.
Much people feel bad for Karl and did try to help. But...... It seems that our rights are, that we have no rights.
