World Animal Day is an international day of
action celebrated annually on October 4, the Feast Day of St Francis of Assisi Florence , Italy

- To celebrate animal life in all its forms
- To celebrate humankind’s relationship with the animal kingdom
- To acknowledge the diverse roles that animals play in our lives – from being our companions, supporting and helping us, to bringing a sense of wonder into our lives
- To acknowledge and be thankful for the way in which animals enrich our lives
FRANCIS OF ASSISI 
 Saint Francis of
Saint Francis of 
Francis' father was Pietro di Bernardone, a
prosperous silk merchant. Francis lived the high-spirited life typical of a
wealthy young man, even fighting as a soldier for Assisi Rome 
In 1219, he went to Egypt Italy 
On July 16, 1228 , he
was proclaimed a saint by Pope Gregory IX. He is known as the patron saint of
animals and the environment, and is one of the two patron saints of Italy
