Über den Wolken - Reinhard Mey

Over the clouds
Wind's from north east, runway zero three
I can hear the motors from here
drawing across like an arrow
And my ears are vibrating
And the wet asphalt soil is quaking
Like a haze the rain is dusting
Till it takes off and floats
Towards the sun

Over the clouds, freedom must be borderless
All your fears and all your sorrows, they say
Remained unseen underneath, and then
Whatever seems big and important to us
Became vain and small.

I keep watching it for long
Watching it climbing the clouds
Till more and more the lights
Fade into the grey rain
My eyes have already
Lost that tiny point
From far away I can just hear
The buzzing motors

Over the clouds, freedom must be borderless
All your fears and all your sorrows, they say
Remained unseen underneath, and then
Whatever seems big and important to us
Became vain and small.

Then everything is quiet and I go
Rain pouring through my jacket
Somebody is cooking coffee
In the hut of the airport security
There's petrol in the puddle
Iridescent like a rainbow
It's a mirror for the clouds
I'd have liked to fly along

Over the clouds, freedom must be borderless
All your fears and all your sorrows, they say
Remained unseen underneath, and then
Whatever seems big and important to us
Became vain and small.
